We went from self-medicated conversation to death in one emphatically-dreary breath. The chair became a coffin as your eyes rolled back in one swift moment of ugly fucking rue. I pulled you to the floor and put my lips on yours, weeping every breath of air I could into your flaccid mouth. Stale beer and copper with a fierce scent of guilt. I gave compressions and breaths till I had nothing left. Alternating between the two as the oxygen rapidly seeped from your brain. My charred lungs and trembling limp hands weren’t strong enough for a revival, jokes on me, salvation is yours. Eight minutes passed, you gasped, memory lapsed, I thought I had you but you fooled me. Another undying joke that’ll haunt me forever in my wide awake dreams. It’ll pair well with my unseemly nightmares that would have Burroughs reaching for the typer. Here lies.. Me…Forever trapped on the cold hardwood floor, gravity wrapping its way around me with cynical arms made of brittle bones and burnt flesh. There is nothing left for me here…How can one be so empty and dwell amongst the living? I’d love to stay but I’d just float, like hope, and other majestic pseudo-optimistic thoughts of the weak. I cling like static to that last hour. It feels like an old wool blanket made of sand-paper and bed bugs. So cold, I thought Hell was supposed to be hot.

Your laughter malignantly resides inside of me, I let a little out each day to keep the demons at bay.

The medics arrive three and a half minutes late, I’m hovering above you on the floor, wiping your saliva off my speechless lips, then the loop brings me back and we do it all over again, day in, day out, morning, noon and night. There is no getting it right, I’m dead to me…
